Attractions get together for Lakes FreeRider
A group of South Lakeland businesses has launched a new free bus service linking some of Lakeland’s top attractions.
The South Lakes FreeRider operates Monday to Friday between the 25th July and the 2nd September and is fully integrated with the Lakeland Motor Museum’s bus timetable which connects with the services provided by Windermere Lake Cruises, both from and to Lakeside.
It is now possible for visitors staying in Central Lakes and local residents, to explore the Cartmel peninsula, without the use of a private car. Similarly, visitors staying in the Cartmel area and those who reside there can use the free bus services and then a scenic lake cruise, to experience the delights of Bowness and Ambleside.
The FreeRider service is a partnership between Windermere Lake Cruises, Lakeland Motor Museum, Holker Hall, Ducky’s Farm Park, Cartmel Traders, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Haven Holidays, Cartmel Village Stores, Rusland Pool Hotel and the Lakeside Hotel.
Edwin Maher, managing director of the Lakeland Motor Museum said: “This is proving to be a great way for people to travel around the South Lakes without having to use their cars and to avoid the associated issues of finding and paying for somewhere to park.
“It’s entirely free, unrestricted in usage, and a far more relaxing mode of road transport, enabling passengers to hop on and off, at their chosen attraction.
Well behaved dogs and wheelchairs are allowed, however, the service does not extend to bikes.”
Great value combined motor museum and lake cruiser tickets can be purchased at the motor museum reception or any of Windermere Lake Cruises booking offices.
