Lakeland Motor Museum offers free entry and 50% discounts to veterans and first responders

Lakeland Motor Museum is proud to support Armed Forces Day with a special ‘Forces and First Responders’ promotion taking place over the weekend of 27 and 28 June to coincide with Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June 2026.

The initiative recognises the dedication and service of Armed Forces personnel, veterans and emergency service workers who make invaluable contributions to communities across the UK.

Originally established to increase public understanding of the military’s role in national security, Armed Forces Day has grown into a nationwide celebration of service and sacrifice. Lakeland Motor Museum is joining the occasion by offering a range of exclusive admission discounts to eligible visitors.

Over the course of the weekend, the first 50 eligible service personnel to visit will be offered complimentary entry.  The offer is open to all veterans, serving Armed Forces and serving or former emergency service personnel.  This includes those working for the police, fire service, ambulance, coastguard and mountain rescue.

Visitors will be required to provide proof of service, which may include a military service ID, veteran card, or recognised emergency services identification.

Once the initial allocation of 50 free admissions has been claimed, all subsequent eligible Forces and First Responders visitors will receive 50% off standard museum entry prices throughout the weekend. While friends and family of eligible personnel will also enjoy significant discounts with 50% off admission for up to one accompanying adult and two accompanying children.

Alongside the vast collection of motoring memorabilia, visitors to the museum will also find a dramatic and poignant display in the upstairs area, which showcases the role motor vehicles played in the war effort of World War One.

“Our armed forces and first responders offer a service that is valuable to the local community and far beyond.  This is our way of saying thank you, so whether those taking up this offer come from within Cumbria or are travelling here for a holiday, all are welcome.” Said Debbie Hooper, Senior Museum Manager.

“The museum is a welcoming and peaceful space for all visitors to enjoy.  We are aware that some veterans may have disabilities or PTSD from their time in service and this is also something we cater well for at the museum.”

Lakeland Motor Museum is committed to providing a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all visitors. The museum offers a range of accessibility features, including wheelchair access, a hearing loop system, and magnifying glasses. Throughout the exhibition areas, visitors will find good lighting, non-slip flooring, and ample seating. A lift provides access to the upper levels, and large-print interpretation panels are available to support a more accessible and inclusive visitor experience.

Lakeland Motor Museum at Backbarrow is open seven days a week, entry is £13.25 for adults and £7.90 for children (5-15 years). Under 5s go free, and family tickets are also available
